About me

I had the fortune of growing up overseas including spending 14 years in Nairobi, Kenya, a few years in Mexico and a little time in Kathmandu, Nepal. Growing up overseas was a life-changing experience in that it broadened my perspective of humanity and helped me appreciate the many opportunities I have had over the years. I don’t think I would have reached these same conclusions had I grown up in more traditional circumstances.  I am currently pursuing a PhD at George Mason University in environmental science and policy and hope to return to Nairobi for my dissertation research. My wife says this picture of me in Mexico captures my true inner child: a sandal wearing chip loving traveler.

Hobbies

I have a lot of hobbies. One hobby I am currently working on is to eat at a restaurant from every country in the world in alphabetical order. We call the project the Passionate International Gastronomers or PIG Project and we blog about it at www.kateandneil.com. So far our groups has eaten at over 30 countries and I have enjoyed every meal except for Bhutanese food.

Academics

By nature, the background color on any div will only show for the length of the content. This means if you're using a background color or border to create the look of a side column, it won't extend all the way to the footer but will stop when the content ends. If the .content div will always contain more content, you can place a border on the .content div to divide it from the column.
